The bizarre way you've renderd the blue highlights on your monster is very interesting. I haven't seen anything like that.

I'd play it. I'd have called it Microidvania to squeeze both influences in the title.

Does anyone else notice how few metroidvanias incorporate SotN's mechanics, e.g. the itemization and leveling mechanics? Metroidvanias in general are very light on the -vania.

Either Dawnbringer is some sort of genius colorist or people voted for DB because they already knew he has a strong grasp on color. I don't have the deepest understanding of color theory myself, so I couldn't tell you which is the case.

Impressive.

Background reminds me strongly of the jungle stage from Demon's Crest.

Or at dusk, if you want macks clrz

Could probably do a mean NES-que mockup with these restrictions.

Who'd have guessed this challenge would turn out so epic. It was not easy or pleasant to whittle it down to 3.

Flies. They (and their young) do a job no one wants, and the world  is better for it.

The animation is sexually attractive to me.

No canvass restriction, bub. Which means you can scale your design up and get new shades via dithering.

Inorite. Why are palette-based challenges so much fun? It seriously does not matter how horrific the palette is (or surprisingly not-so-horrific, in this case), by the end of it you're having a blast.

Pixel art meets line art. I like it, superbly executed.

The best animation I've seen at this website.

user
Daimoth @ 3/27/2015 17:38 commented on Flying Steampunk Monster

It's gorgeous, but the animation is clearly half-assed in places. Even without scrutiny I can see exactly where you cut/pasted rather than re-rendered.

In fact, my eyes are drawn to that awkwardness before I even notice that you animated the smoke, gears, and propeller blades by hand. At a glance, all I see is the cut/paste-eyness of it.

Probably the strongest piece of art in the weekly, but it also conveys impact the least.
