For the weekly challenge.

And also my first attempt at a more horizontal wing movement than the stereotypical up and down wing movement. Should be more correct for hovering flight, but wanted to try what it would look like in a picture.

About the elephant shifting in the air:
As suggested, I also tried shifting the elephant in the air (I still have those versions, maybe I should also post one of them?), but found the added shifting too disturbing as the colors are already quite extreme for my preference. Even one pixel shift made me feel like the image was punching me in the face. Also, this is not for some real project that is used by thousands, but for the weekly challenge, so I don't feel like doing asynchronous and sub-pixel whole body animation (and it would look wrong otherwise). Along the same lines, I did not add a table with microscope and a projector in the foreground, avoiding cluttering the image with too many details and forcing the viewer to interprete it the same way as myself.

Although I admit the animation looks a bit ghastly, it already makes the point and my preference is not to burden the viewer.

@ Muxaun: Yes, I did. That is a two pixel shift : )

I mean, if it was a game and the creatures should pop from the background, or if the colors were less extreme, then shifting would probably be better. But in the case of just a picture I feel like the shifting versions make me fall off my chair, and draw too much attention away from the scientist. Or maybe I am just tired and therefore my judgement is not representative of the general population?

Here is the shifting version http://i44.tinypic.com/fn4uf7.gif.

Tried a compilation of various shifts in one gif, but it looked like noise so I just picked one that looked best to me.

Wow o . o i'm not sure what I'm looking at but the ear animation isn't too bad and the contrast in the pink and the green is cool!

Ok, I'll try to make a compilation of the shifting versions, and post the link in a few days.

Can you please provide a link to the version with shifting elephant?
