hey, everyone, long time no post! I've just recently graduated from high school and I'll be heading to college to major in art! it's been a while since I've actually posted here and I just hope everyone is doing well and, from what I've seen, the excellence of the art here is still going strong! my senior year of high school was a fantastic one, filled with many achievements in art, sports, and whatnot, and I have to say I'm really excited about things from here on out.

this piece was one I've been working on for a good while now. it's more of a backdrop or something of the like than an actual scene, as it doesn't quite have a focus or a real story to tell. it was definitely somewhat of a stress reliever, as I would always work on this specific piece when I was feeling down or distressed, rather than a few other pieces I'm still working on. it was based off of the top of a few distant trees around a friends' house, and I really like the contrast between the crowded, overgrown trees and the open blue sky. the real meaning behind this piece is just that nature is serenity. nature is calm, and the world is bright. anyways, I hope you all like it as much as I do-- pixzeling the flora was a ton of fun. :)

Oh I've been doing fine, more or less lurking around while doing my own thing and getting ready for college, haha.

I haven't really seen anything you've done in awhile but one thing is for sure whenever I do see it I'm really just impressed with every piece you do, but then again that's just me.

user
Diogalesu (Level 2 Dealer) @ 8/18/2012 07:25

Great job.

user
cassiechihuahua (Level 1 Gangster) @ 8/17/2012 19:40

hah, your life sounds just like mine! with the art and sports and going off to college and whatnot. This is a really refreshing image with the etail and coloring, especially considering I am now stuck in a stiflinf dorm whereas at home i was surrounded by woods like this :S

user

I have been looking for many days for a nice background image for a cellphone, and here it is! Thank you very much!

user
mixlplix (Level 1 Thug) @ 7/12/2012 11:23

The way you pixel and the way you communicate..I'd never guess you were just out of Highschool. Keep it up, you seem to have a bright future.

user
Gecimen (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 7/12/2012 03:30

Great job. Just one thing, the pine tree seems to be defying the lightsource.

user
Jetrel (Level 1 Intern) @ 7/12/2012 02:13

This is really, really nice.  The general composition is good, the AA and dithering rock, and the colors are warm and pretty tastefully chosen.

If you're open to ideas for future pieces, here's a C&C thing you might look at in the future.  On the trees in this piece, all of the leaves are mostly parallel to the camera. One of the biggest things that improved my attempts at doing pixel-art leaves was drawing a substantial number of them facing at other angles - it's really hard to do leaves side-on in pixelart, but I think it helps a lot because in real life, leaves have a high variation in facing.  Hopefully that advice is helpful - it took me a long time to figure out.

ParkerBabyDiaperCompany (Level 4 Team Leader) @ 7/11/2012 18:35

This is really great.

LoL I shouldn't even have to fave this.  Pixeljoint should program this piece to be an Instafave once you view it.

I LOVE your attention to details.  My kind of art right there.  Beautiful forest!

user
KappaNossi (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/11/2012 03:50

Absolutely stunning work. How do you start a picture like this?

Like some others, I do have minor gripes with that tree in the center. It kinda looks off in this perspective, as if I'm looking up at those bushes and the sky but the tree is viewed from the side, not from slightly below. Depending on the intended distance, it might still be correct and I'm just looking at it the wrong way.

Also, how about a little owl or eagle in the distance near that tree ;)? I think that's also a part of the calming aspect of nature.

Thank you all so much for all of your wonderful comments! There's some excellent critique here, all that I agree with, and some that I have addressed just now with an update!

TheoVision: thank you, you were absolutely right. I changed this in this update by completely redoing the branch and its' angle and position, and hopefully it improves that area of the piece!

st0ven: Means a lot coming from you man, you already know how much I always appreciate your input. I agree about the over-detail at points-- inferring texture would probably be just as effective. It's something I'll definitely work on.

Adarias: It's so humbling to have someone I looked up to for years comment on my piece giving it such praise. It really means a lot to me and I thank you tons! Please submit more artwork!

Drazelic: Thanks my friend! I've hopefully addressed all of the unnoticed leaves in this update!

Joe: That would have been an excellent effect for sure and I agree completely. Thank you!

skamocore: Good to be back (kind of) :) Thank you! Even when I'm not active here I'm still around checking out the artwork.

AlabasterJazz: I agree, definitely. I tried a different texture for the evergreen before I submitted this, and I wasn't quite satisfied with it, but it's certainly something to play around with. Thank you!

Merez: I can see where you are coming from for sure. Like I said to Alabaster, that tree is definitely something to work with in the coming days. Thanks!

To everyone else: you guys rule. Thank you all.

 Instant fav, great job!

user
Merez (Level 6 Hitman) @ 7/10/2012 04:49

You're a great artist in relation to textures. A Fool seconds, maybe. I am also an admirer of his clouds, and foliage. Great job man!

(just think that the pine from the center, could be more contrast)

user
ui_ (Level 4 Deputy) @ 7/9/2012 22:16

 SUPER DELICIOUS :)

user
PoisonousJoy (Level 4 Mercenary) @ 7/9/2012 21:22

 so pretty

user
snowk (Level 7 Mass Murderer) @ 7/9/2012 19:35

I agree about the somewhat flat leaf textureing at points but there is no denying the beauty of this piece! when the leaves get bigger is where it really shines, i think. fine job mate!

user
Rayovatron (Level 6 SWAT) @ 7/9/2012 18:41

Sorry I wasn't talking about art industry at all, what I wanted to say is there is no link between age and talent.

user
Adarias (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 7/9/2012 17:54

so glad after i clicked the preview to see that this piece wasn't ruined by the need to put a "thing" in it!  Fantastically done.  A bit over-detailed for my own taste, but that does nothing to take away from the beauty of it.

user
AlabasterJazz (Level 1 Intern) @ 7/9/2012 17:02

The leaves have almost a stained glass effect which is very appealing, and the clouds are amazing; the only thing is the evergreen in the center seems to be missing something to keep it on par with the other trees.  The scene itself definately succeeds in conveying a feeling of serenity, and perhaps even hope or perseverance.  Great job!

user
Drazelic (Level 8 Partner) @ 7/9/2012 16:55

Man this is amazing, but the few unfinished solid-color leaf-blocks are really annoying- you can't unsee them once you notice XD

user
slym (Level 8 Rear Admiral) @ 7/9/2012 16:25

Great work as always =) Love to see you putting more work up.

user
Danori (Level 1 Gangster) @ 7/9/2012 15:43

Some examples of young pixel artists? And When you want artwork as a career, yes age does matter. Theres a point where every artist must get into the industry and the better you are at a younger age, the more likely you are to get the spot in the industry. Of course, you can be a self employed artist, or a commissioner, but those positions often dont bring in any income. Art is very competetive and people look for the best they can get.

user
Ashkin (Level 8 Rear Admiral) @ 7/9/2012 15:37

Unbelievable <3

user
Rayovatron (Level 6 SWAT) @ 7/9/2012 14:56

The age doesn't matter, there is people younger then you that are way better then him.

user
Danori (Level 1 Gangster) @ 7/9/2012 14:08

wow you made this and your 18? Bro I'm 16, and I'm no where near this quality. I need to step my game up if I want to be any competition in the art industry :p

user
Gamamoto (Level 1 Depressed) @ 7/9/2012 14:05

Really nice, those clouds are amazing !

user
st0ven (Level 2 Dealer) @ 7/9/2012 13:18

really great colors and has an excellent feel to it. Zooming in i realize that there are a lot of overly repetitive (and flat) leaf structures. I used to also render tree leaves and such this way, but i have found that its better to inter fhat detail rather than be so explicit.
