Get it now while it's still in stock!

*uses colors from DB's palette, plus some lighter shades for texturing purposes

*changed the "handwritten" typeface to a more futuristic style, also tried to fix the price and that saturated blue :)

Here's a poster format (obviously NPA) that I intend to print someday :)

Wow, very well done, i love most of your works.

Nice result on the paper texture, but at first i thought it was dirt in my screen, lol.

eclep (Level 5 Detective) @ 5/14/2012 11:31

Mrmo Tarius (Level 10 Master Sniper) @ 5/11/2012 00:15

To counter the huge number, I used a made-up currency ;D

user
iLKke (Level 9 Nidan) @ 5/10/2012 18:29

Lovely design. The price is a tad unrealistic, though

New font is great! Lovely stuff. :)

user
Friend (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 5/9/2012 16:43

very nice update.   To be honest I was a fan of the saturated blue, but the new fonts make the piece look so much better

user
Rayovatron (Level 6 SWAT) @ 5/9/2012 15:45

 cool paper texture.

I will now proceed to fix those damned nines :D

*edit* done... needs feedback :P

user
|||| (Level 8 Marshal) @ 5/8/2012 22:09

This has the bestest type of anachronistic ~ 'vintage-futuristic' style..

the ad format reminds me of: imprint.printmag.com/wp-content/uploads/Acme2005.jpg which reminds me of old Mad Magazine adds but funnier.

Marduk the original Mars/Aries ftw too

user
Friend (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 5/8/2012 21:04

damn, I didn't even notice the paper texture until it was pointed out.  Welcome to and Now only are definitely eyesores in a gorgeous and well designed piece

user
Delicious (Level 9 Boss) @ 5/8/2012 17:49

Agreeing with Jeremy also, the texts are a bit unnattractive compared to the very appealing description and "The Future with NightinGale" fonts. Regardless, this is well done as usual. :)

user
MrBeast (Level 3 Sergeant) @ 5/8/2012 16:14

and thats what we call inflation.

user
aeveis (Level 5 Sniper) @ 5/8/2012 15:57

Ah, the typography is really nice, and I really like the subtle paper textures. I would have agree with Jeremy though on the "welcome to" and "now only."

user
jeremy (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 5/8/2012 15:52

the nines, "welcome to" and "now only" are quite weak; detract from it as a whole. $99999.99 could use the nightingale font, at a larger size. It's a pity that the top and bottom don't have the same distressed effect as the middle.

Aside from that, you captured the retro-future aesthetic really well. Great colours, great gun.

E: I like that blue :I

user
Mrmo Tarius (Level 10 Master Sniper) @ 5/8/2012 15:45

Took me maybe six hours to finish. I actually enjoyed making the typefaces, but not so much putting them into place, although the grid function in grafx helped a lot with that.

I'll see if I can fix that blue, but I'd say it keeps the overall color balance from completely shifting to red tones :P

user
jellybeanfish (Level 4 Button Man) @ 5/8/2012 15:25

How much time did you spend on this piece, do you think? I was surprised to see the WIP up so early in the challenge thread, and I can only imagine how time-consuming putting the letters into place by hand was.

I agree with what someone else said about the bright blue color on the gun (most noticeably on the scope) seeming a bit out of place - with the other colors being desaturated, it looks less metallic and more blue lighting. That's really the only nitpick I have, though, the rest is wonderful - love the subtle parchment texture, too. Took me a bit to notice it was there on this monitor!

user
gogglecrab (Level 3 Enforcer) @ 5/8/2012 14:04

absolutly, positivly.... love this piece!

user
Benjiro (Level 8 Shodan) @ 5/8/2012 13:11

:O i want one of this

user
xeroxz2k7 (Level 1 Rookie) @ 5/8/2012 10:49

The poster feels very, very Bioshock, you know? I love it.

user
dpixel (Level 9 Vice President) @ 5/8/2012 09:55

I'd take one, but it's a bit pricey.  Nice job.

user
shampoop (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 5/8/2012 09:46

Congrats, It turned out great.  I'll start saving now!

user
Mrmo Tarius (Level 10 Master Sniper) @ 5/8/2012 09:11

Every letter was handmade, and every letter has been put into place manually. It was quite a repetitive piece of work.

I tried to achieve that vintage advertisement look with different typefaces and slightly misaligned lettering, emulating manual typesetting. I'm sorry if that didn't work out the way I intended it to :)

Also, if I made the price any more eye-catching, it would be the first thing you see when you look at the ad, and that's kinda missing the point since I wanted to showcase the gun :P

user
Alex Pang (Level 6 Made) @ 5/8/2012 09:03

Damn, this is amazing! Reminds me of team fortress :) But you need to work on your typography :)

Espessially the numbers

I usually write them by hand cause it looks better but from the look of it you used some software, am I right? I think it needs some more work, and maybe make the price pop out more that would be cool :)

There is one last thing,  you should compare the sizes of the letters, when you look at the dollars sign and compare it to the letters you will se that they dont fit and that you need to work on that too!

user
Mrmo Tarius (Level 10 Master Sniper) @ 5/8/2012 08:07

I made this in GrafX2, and the parchment texture was made using the Sieve and Stencil tools. With Sieve, I made a one bit 16x16 pattern that would be repeated, and with Stencil I defined a color that I wanted to apply Sieve brush on. It's basically combining tiles and masking. It's not exactly 'true' pixelart in the sense of manually placing every pixel, but it was drawn manually with a rather large brush using only two colors- and with a canvas of that size, it was a time saver :P

user
st0ven (Level 2 Dealer) @ 5/8/2012 07:21

pretty interesting piece. i personally dont think that blue has any purpose being the brightest highlight color on the metal considering how desaturated the other metallic values appear. It seems this would indicate a very strong blue lightsource. what im most curious about is how you achieved the parchment texture. it looks almost like it could be repeating in some places. it has perfect 45 degree lines throughout so im sure it wasnt just 'quick sketchy pixel brush work'. but looks a little too random to have been precise pixel placement. Unlike many others in this community im sure, how you achieved the effect has no impact on my high opinion of this piece, im very much just curious how you achieved it :)

user
Elk (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 5/8/2012 06:40

reminds me of miascughs pixelart ad :P

really nice

user
DawnBringer (Level 10 Maniac) @ 5/8/2012 06:00

Cool stuff... can't wait to use this weapon in the next version of Chaos Engine ;)

On the downside the "now only" font is a bit craggy
