My entry for the Weekly Challenge - Electric Still Life.

I associate still life with traditional paintings, and I've always wanted to do a Roy Lichtenstein piece, as this is the perfect artist which work can be transformed into the digital realm.

Heavily based on Roy Lichtenstein's Cubist Still Life (1974):

very pop-art, good combination of subjest and style.

Stylistic and cool, but the skewed symbols on the ipod touch wheel keep drawing my eyes, for such nice clean straights everywhere else they stand out like a sore thumb - the pause and right/next keys especially :(.A tad more AA than I like too but I like it - good to see more unusually styled pieces in pixels!

One of tyhe things I would make in photoshop instead of pixelart. Anyway its interesting.
Imo maybe over-antialiased.

Lovely take on the weekly challenge. I like how you used AA here a lot, personally, it really gives a poster-ish feeling. Gets my vote for sure.

Thanks Jeremy, for your feedback on the AA. I'm always aiming for the next best thing to improve my skills, so advise like this is always welcome!

Comment on the Roy Lichtenstein 403 link error: I don't get the error. However, I've changed the link (from a different site), so I hope the problem is solved.

Cool concept. I like it.
Well done!
ps: i think the Lichtenstein's link is broken..

AA is a good thing imo.

Some of your AA goes against typical PA convention; particularly the way you've done the horizontal and vertical lines: it's normally best to just have a double pixel black line, as what you have there is a bit fuzzy. Don't be afraid to mix up more than just value in AA colours, I think that the darker yellows in particular could do with a shift towards orange.

Nice new take on a still life ^.^

E: also, I get a 403 error on your link :)

Just to comment on the AA: I agree with StickyTape that AA helps this piece. I can not speak for Roy himself, but looking at his work he uses very crisp smooth lines - no AA would make some lines in the piece a bit too jagged.

@ A.B. Lazer and Ravagence: to each its own I guess. I know you guys do not use AA (much) in your own pieces, but for me this piece was already a leap of faith, as I'm a guy who also love to dither. So this piece is already something off the beaten track  ...

Really great piece for this, haha, and well done! Regardless of the other comments, the AA helps muchly on this.

Love TheoVision. Love Lichtenstein. Love this piece. Hate anti-aliasing (if we really needed it, we could resort to regular CG). I think Lichtenstein would never AA anything.

If player's wheel is in the middle, we should see it's screen's top right corner. Or not?

Ravagence (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 3/4/2011 19:10

Anti-aliasing ruined it for me :(

I just loved it! The texture was amazing, incredible view, grat colors and AA, the psychedelic style was simply amazing!
