Amazing piece!

 Bloody awesome!

//cheap philosophical break

Well subject and concept are two different things, right? ;)

user
NaCl (Level 3 Hatchet Man) @ 6/15/2010 16:23

 The concept is a rectangularish shape that says "Pixel Art" on it. By concept I mean the actual subject you are drawing.

user
Anarkhya (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/15/2010 07:31

Ok! but can you clarify "concept" here, I'm not sure I get your point... please confirm!

user
NaCl (Level 3 Hatchet Man) @ 6/15/2010 06:16

 The pixeling looks excellent, nice work. This normally doesn't fall under the realm of criticism, but I'll say it anyway. The concept is utterly boring. Seeing a well executed piece is one thing, seeing an amazing concept executed well is another. I'm genuinely excited to see more from you in the future!

Slemsvamp (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 6/14/2010 10:21

The white pixels in the corners of the letters really makes this piece

user
Ambient (Level 6 Major) @ 6/13/2010 13:28

 Only part I don't like is that the bottom corners seem to be too high in contrast compared to the others. But awesome piece!

user
Hatch (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 6/12/2010 12:08

I find this very appealing. Hope to see more from you!

@Luke 00126:

Many thanks but nope, you're overrating this. That logo is currently not technically interesting enough to represent this community, IMO.

user
Anarkhya (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/12/2010 08:44

@Manupix:

- yeah, I admit the color combo is really not original, but well it was a start, and I'm decided to get better ;)

- I thought that the small "art" can be perceived as standing on the plane if you see what I'm trying to point.

- ah thats an idea, on the other hand, that could fragilize the clean look desired... ok.

- yes, this is a flaw I seen but I didnt edit it, you're right!

Thanks for taking the time to explain your crit!

Luke_00126 (Level 1 Private) @ 6/12/2010 02:51

thats awesome. that must be the new logo for pixeljoint :D

user
Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) @ 6/12/2010 00:12

Very good!

If I had to nitpick, I'd say this:

- colors are a bit on the obvious side, I'm sure it would be possible to use a more personal combination than deep blue / deep purple;

- 'art' is out of perspective with 'pixel' and the overall shape and perceived angle of view;

- the 'wingtips' (next to the head) might gain by adding something to them, just having them dark doesn't contrast them enough with the head;

- cloak is mirrorred, which is inconsistent with strongly lateral light.

Anarkhya (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/11/2010 17:53

@antymattar: 8 colors? You're getting really rude ;)

@Jalonso: I consider myself pretty new to pixel practise, but the discipline as a whole subject is something I love and digg intensely since 2 years, I've been lurking/educating me a lot on Pixelation, saving entire threads in html to read at home... until I had a proper internet access.

@ALL: Many thanks for this surprising welcome! I knew the community here was active but I didnt realize that was so intense. uploaded this piece hours ago and already 13 comments+crits... during one single day?? I really appreciate this feeling of emulation. Thanks again!

No harsh feedback here. Lovely for what it is.

user
elend (Level 3 Private Eye) @ 6/11/2010 10:11

Well, it's gorgeous. What can I say.

user
Frost (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 6/11/2010 10:00

This is rad.

I actually dig the high saturated blue and purple, but as scamokore pointed out, colors with high saturation AA pretty bad against backgrounds with low saturation. You could probably add just one color, or tweak the AA a bit with a less saturated color.

user
antymattar (Level 2 Kukyu) @ 6/11/2010 07:51

I think that a 8 color one would be possible.

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 6/11/2010 07:25

Very good, if you're new to pixel pushing.

user
Anarkhya (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/11/2010 05:51

Without losing infos? dont know If I have the skill.

But you're launching a challenge, I'll give it a try!

user
antymattar (Level 2 Kukyu) @ 6/11/2010 05:23

16 colors? This looks great but I'm pretty shoure you could acomplish it with a tad less colors.

user
Satsume (Level 10 Capo) @ 6/11/2010 05:10

very nice,welcome to PJ =)

user
Anarkhya (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/11/2010 04:50

Ok. I guess I must take another look at this piece on a non-CRT monitor, because my eyes (viewing 100% ratio on a 17" CRT display) tell me that the outer AA does the trick. I'll also try another values to see if it changes my AA efficiency and viewing.

My usage of HighSat hues here was on purpose a way of experimenting with AA and how saturation affects aliasing.

Warm thanks for the crit, skamocore!

user
Ky3bMu4 (Level 8 Guerrilla) @ 6/11/2010 03:45

really good thumb :]

user
jeremy (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 6/11/2010 03:35

 That middle bit's quite beautiful. As ska said, that AA is somewhere between AA and a neon effect. Choose one or the other! >:O  ;)

Welcome

user
SpaceSalmon (Level 1 Rookie) @ 6/11/2010 03:14

Very nice 5/5

user
skamocore (Level 11 CEO) @ 6/11/2010 03:00

Hi, welcome to PJ.

Looking nice, but the outer AA colours just do not seem to work. the blue and purple are faaar too saturated to properly function as AA there. If you don't want to add extra colours, then it's probably better to stick with just one layer of AA around those edges. In fact, I'm not really convinced that this piece needs the full saturation blue and purple anyway...
