Well, this is one of my favorite Christian Rock groups so I decided to create the CD cover of their group for this challenge. I originally drew the face on computer paper and then inked it and scanned it onto my computer and then pixeled it from there. I created a simple background and foreground so the face would "pop" out and became the main focal point as it should be intended to be. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it.

Not sure how many colors I used so if someone could find that out for me, I would like that. :S

Ok, I'm still not too sure what this banding stuff exactly is, even with all these explanations from you guys. I'm getting so confused it's making feel like I'm stupid. > < I've never heard of this stuff until now. I mean, I've been pixeling for over a year now, but I consider myself still very new to pixeling. I'm thinking banding is a form of bad AA? I'm probably wrong. From Adarias explanation, banding makes lines that look out of place I suppose instead of making them looks straight and clean. I'm attempting to comprehend this, but for some odd reason I just can't.

inappropriate planar shifts made more obvious by simultaneous contrast of values does not have a use and is only successful in exposing a flaw in technique.  here it breaks the consistency of the image and is generally ugly.  The rest of the image is very nicely done which is why it's so frustrating to see banding right in the middle of things.

to elaborate, the problem with this type of banding is that the bands are long and narrow, with dark above and light below, so they appear lighter at the top and darker at the bottom by virtue of simultaneous (or local) contrast.  this creates a line that looks like this:
/
 /
  /
   /
when it should look like this:
\
 \
  \
   \

this is done by breaking your bands.  come to wayofthepixel.net if you want help on how to do that, but i think you understand.

Banding has its uses too, sometimes very successful. I see no problem with it here. Good job.

Ok, thanks HMC. From what I'm guessing by reading that is banding's a not so great thing to do in pixel art. I think I see where I did banding in this art work. Anyways, thanks for the feedback on this HMC. I really appreciate it.

by my count it has [I don't care how many] colors!

Good job!  Don't know the band, but good job!

If you'd mind telling me, what's banding? :S

It's a nice effort. You've got some pretty ugly banding going on in some places, though, and not enough anti-aliasing.
