Erm I know you have to use the colours for the knight, but can you use your own if you want to make a BG?

No. Only the seven colors in the class of knight you choose. All seven of them.
The palettes were designed to be a little challenging, so adding your own would defeat the purpose.

no, make only one knight that uses the seven colors of the palette you choose. Number one through number 7 on a 100 by 100 pixel canvas.

you can enter several pieces into the challenge but each one would then use the seven colors of the palette you choose. Number one through number 7 on a 100 by 100 pixel canvas.

Royal knight.

Basically whats going on is its a game mock up, and the knight on the left side of the screen is highlighted.
We got some tile floor and stair steps, as well as a royal red carpet with fringe.
Any ideas? Please help!

here we go.

EDITS: you can see the heads now, the royal knight "words" are more clear, i added a dither background style to the pop up, lengthened the pop up banner. also made the knight lvl 99, because Jal thinks all royal knights are higher than lvl 37

anything else i could do to make this better?

p.s. accidentally erased the old version so u cant really see the edits

Ya know, I hope this doesn't count as a stupid question, but if we make a beast rider, do we have to use the Beast Rider pallet, or can we use one of the other 7?

I think you have to use the same 7 colors as labeled for that type of character. So you have to use the purple colors for the beast rider.

I would assume you would have to use the beast rider palette. Of course, you can always use another palette and try to include a beast somewhere in it without the person you are focusing on being a beast rider. Don't take my word for it, though.

seriously. in a long time the challenge rules have never been as clear as they are this week.. canvas 100x100 how ever you mirror or rotate it, given palettes, given contents, we even have an illustration!

Man, I wish I could have it both ways... >.>

I started pixeling it with the thought that he'd be kinda evil, like a "fallen knight" then I noticed there's actually a pallet for someone that rides a beast. But since it says I can't mix, and the beast part is more apparent than any evil part, I guess I've got to go with the all purple one...

Anyhow, I need to work on the Dragon's head some more, the shield, his legs, and do something interesting with the background. Any suggestions for those particular areas?

Id say with the dragon, give him some fangs, and some horns that come out of the top of his head or side, he needs holes for ears (the dragon). The shield, I would either put studs or gems. And maybe give the rider a lance or something in his right hand, that should eat up some of that background space. Background I'd do part of a castle and mountains.

By the way, can we enter up to 7 different entries on this one?

Major WIP, lol. Those little stick dudes are, of course, not final, and are just put there to show the idea I am planning on going with. The sunset is definite, but lacks major detail. I plan on revising it later.

FlyGuy: I like the pose of the knight and the way you shaded the armor but I think the background(red carpet) is very noisy and it would probably look better if it was a bit more cleaned up(smoother and less distracting).

Woah, Blackbeltdude, yours is very cool, no idea how to improve the things you mentioned.

---

I'm trying to make an angry paladin.
Anatomy is fully made up, I might even completely start over if I can find some good reference material to get the face anatomy right.
Progress so far:
Anyone else think he looks a bit like Arnie?

I'm hardly the person to be commenting on anatomy, but I do believe yours is off, Aleiav. Her hands seem kind of tiny compared to her head, the right most one especially (which also seems a bit too twisted). And again, I'm hardly the person to mention this, but her boobs don't look correct...

Really, I think your best bet for this is finding a nice reference of an angry woman. Can't be too hard to find, right? :P

Good luck with yours, Dennis! I think you picked a tricky pallet for that face! XD

I like this challenge idea, but I have a question. (This may seem obvious. XD)

for some reason, I still have blocks on my computer. (XD) I guess I should have known the second I joined this site that some amazingly powerful cosmic force would be blocking the page that I need to go to to submit my pixel art. - Anyway, if I asked a someone else to submit my work for me when I finnish it, would that be alowed? I know that there would probably be a lot of confusion of whos art it is though... :/

Edit: Regardless of weather it will matter or be judged, I'll try my hand at it anyway- as I always do. ;p ^^

Edit2: Thank you jalonso! ^-^

Oh, I'm not an expert in anatomy by any means. But keep in mind she IS a barbarian. :P Her boobs actually seem pretty right to me. When you've got big tits, despite what most MMORPG graphics would have you believe, they really aren't that perky. XD I actually thought that the hair looked more f**ked up than anything.

Aleiav, Blackbeltdude makes a good point on his anatomy issues with your pixel. You may have a great reason for it, but on a judges standpoint they don't usually take that into consideration. Most people are looking for a woman with a sexy body if shes going to be holding a sword now a days. Especially since all these new RPG's have tainted the minds of millions. I think it would be in your best interest to fix the anatomy of the areas he mentioned. Good start though!

I don't disagree with her anatomy issues like her hands and such. My pointing out she was a barbarian was to remind him that some of her traits are going to be exaggerated and to keep that in mind. Like her shoulders are a bit more broad than your average woman and she's a bit more manly in general than your average human woman.

When it comes to her boobs, eeh, I don't care what most people are looking for. She's an Amazon woman, kickass barbarian. And breasts aren't immune to the power of gravity. :P

His skirt completely blends in with the mountains.
And is he supossed to be 50 meters tall?
Also a few readability isues, but it looks nice overall.

Here's my WIP.
I've always been paladin fan so meh.
Anyway, I WILL finish this. If not I will eat my monitor.

(I know it has one colour too many. It's a double white I think)

Thanks Leroy. I though I'd keep the dithering of the cloth to show the difference between cloth and metal, so they don't get confused.
Tried it anyway though.

Aleiav, her boobs are set too in the horizontal, rather than the angle the rest of her body is positioned. Her farthest breast should be ever so slightly higher, smaller and set more to the left. The cleavage lines should be fixed with this too. Make sure to show off her neck more obviously aswel, so it looks less thick, and remember to put it in shadow where it's needed.

Great stuff everyone, keep it up.

Edited the carpet like folks were saying. Toned it down a bit, and also added a shadow to both of the knights over the carpet and tile.
