Since it's requested to be a humanoid I suppose it can't be "human"...

It says "with a standing animation", I think this is an exactly what an idle stance depicts.

Humanoid = having human form or characteristics.  Humans have human form, and therefore are humanoids.

No, they are just examples, you can use your own drawig style as long as the character is original and has a standing animation.

I may have to jump in as my character making skills are non-existent. Hopefully the only difficulty will be sketching up a good design.

@Lar, I wondered what you were talking about and started roughing in my sprite. Seems 60x120 is thin and tall but I read 60x120 up to 100x150 meaning something like 120x120 is fine for example or say human proportioned 105x140 would fit within the rules. Right?

Just posting to see if this is legal or not. I'm assuming it isn't though. Not entirely done but I had fun making it anyway. The fighter is the imp who is controlling the unconcious dude. This is why I asked about props earlier..

If you didn't draw the lineart then it is not allowed. But your shading skills are pretty nice, remember you will have to animate it to enter the challenge.

Err, I should've explained more thoroughly... I did do the lineart and everything starting this afternoon when I saw this thread about 12 hours ago.. (stopped abit to eat and watch 24). I was wondering if the set up of the character and his "prop" are legal. I do fully intend to animate it, I have 6 more days afterall :D.

I might give it a try. Too bad that it has to be original characters, I was going to make a Sakaki or Shinobu fighting character. Oh well, maybe next time. Let's see how it goes...

i dont understand why so much complaining about sizes and blablabla, its a lot simpler than other challenges i saw before, with very strange topics (strange its not the word im thinking, more like some "complex ideas" or something) most of the time i preffer to not participate becouse the topics are so (that thing) that i dont find them fun xD (ya probably im not so cult in pixel art)
this one is so simple, make an animation between 60x120 and 100x150, too big? well thats a rule, and maybe the fighting games chars are not that big usually but blah who cares, its another rule, and if im not wrong in guilty gear the resolution was 640x480 so i supose the chars where bigger than usual so again, bleh :p

and yes, standing = idle, i know becouse i did the translation for domino myself because her english its not so good, and i didnt knew that you call that pose IDLE, for us is standing :p so its my mistake, sorry n_nU

aaaand in the end i think most of the people in pixeljoint its far good enough so i dont know why so much complains, thats all :p its a simple thing

hope i can find some time to do this one... D:

people, it is a challenge...  challenges are not meant to be easy, otherwise they wouldn't be called a challenge, they would be called an activity.  a size restriction is part of the challenge, if you don't like it, then don't participate in the challenge.

if you don't like the challenges, put full genuine effort into your piece (not work a day or two on it then submit it), win the challenge, then make your own.  it's that simple.

@jal, that would be fine, as long as it is within the minimum and maximum size, it is within regulations.

Fine, i'm not taking part. *Cries*.

Christ, don't take me so seriously. It's just that it's hard enough making an idle fighter sprite in a week anyway, let alone one that's twice the size of what i'd consider normal.

Anyway, no worries, good luck everyone.

it wasnt meant to be mean.  it was meant to get a point across to the 3 people who pmed me asking if they had to use the minimum size and if they could go smaller.

Is there anything special that I have to do to enter or just submit the sprite on Sunday?

Anyways, I started, didn't get very far today since I only found out about this site today.  So here is some sketch-art for my submission, as well as a nice hand.  Oh, and I apologize for the boxiness of the hand, that will be fixed up soon.  Without further adieu, here is my (crappy) beginning to the sprite.

<http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c103/enmityxero/stick_fighter.png>

UPDATE:

Comments and Criticism welcome, though I'm not sure what all there is to comment on or criticize at this point in creation.

Oh yeah the sword thing was just something I did out of pure boredom, I was originally going to have him carry a sword but I don't think you should keep the blade pointed towards your face (such as how it would have to be with the hand angle).  I might end up changing the hand angle but who knows, I always found swords to be cheap in fights, and since it's a fighter sprite...

Read all the rules to make sure you're fine. Check the 'weekly challeneg option' when you submit your entry. Finally, its BY Sunday not ON Sunday.

Haven't seen any C&C lately, so...

AdamPlays:  Your pirate sucks.  And you suck.
Omenith: Uh, wow!  I can't wait to see it finished!
Pickspy:  I think the head looks like Link to me, but it's still very nice.  What program are you using?  It's just like enmity's torso.
Adamplays: You still suck.  =P
Enmityxero: Not a bad start, but it's hard to judge without an outline or any description of the character.

Ey thank you ^^ I'm glad that you like it!
I use a character of my comic for reference.

I use MS Paint for do the lines and the composition of the sprite, animation with Graphics Gale and Photoshop CS2 for change the colors.
Enmixtyxero, the hand is great, but the shoulders are a bit small than the head.
1up, so great! Remembers me Iori Yagami with this smile xD.
Omenith, your sprite is incredible!
Adamplay, your sprites doesn't sucks. Is your style, and the clown is a great idea!

Adam, your sprite does not suck. You have spoiled us with your awesomely funny animations so there is nothing to comment on yet.

You however do suck

I've been meaning to enter one of these challenges for a while now.   Why I chose to do something this time is beyond me since I haven't done fighter sprites before :\.  Anyway, here's what I have so far,

Some colour tweeks still left to do, and I'm not happy with the shins being devoid of character.  Maybe some more definition in some areas.  Animating will probably be a pain though, not because it itself is hard, but the tools I use aren't that elegant for larger sprites (love it though for smaller stuff).

Suggestions welcome.
