Wanna draw a new Google favicon?

icon
Google recently decided to change its favicon*, but, if you noticed it, most of us didn't like this change, maybe because it's different or ..whatever. So unlike most of the companies that avoid user inputs, they opened for suggestions, so here it is!

RULES

  • Resolution: 16 pixel x 16 pixel image
  • Format: .png, .gif, or .ico
  • Size: 5 KB
  • Transparency: 32 bit alpha transparency
  • Deadline is June 20, 2008
  • You must be of a legal age to form a binding contract to participate.
Suggestions to follow before starting:
  • Make the shape and profile visible.
  • Incorporate some or all of the letters in "Google."
  • Utilize the primary colors that are used in the Google logo.
  • Avoid being product specific.
  • Be timeless.
Here you can submit your artwork and find other useful explanations.
Anyway there's a thread on the PJ forum where you can discuss it! :)

*a favicon, also known as a website icon, page icon or urlicon, is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Favicon)

lol @ garrett... yea dude google totally exploits people by proposing everyone who don't liek the favicon propose their idea, uh huh, hands down. next thing you know they'll outsource their code the same way etc etc.

Google now doesn't have to pay no one to make his customer satisfied!
Greatly cunning move, indeed.

I submitted a white G inside a blue box... only to find out they've already thought of a similar idea... Now I feel like a fool...

Some of their ideas can be seen here

from the little i know...

there's 2 types of transparency, the normal solid-transparent one, and partial transparency, which allows for anti-aliasing that will look good on any backgrounds as well as half faded tones.
last night i found out that paint.net (which i don't use) saves PNG either in 8 bit, 16 bit, or 32 bit. only 32 bit mode allows partial transparency, while one of the others allows "solid transparency", and the other has none.

so i guess this means it has to be a 32bit file which will let you have partial transparency in there.

now someone should fix the links in that post.

Can someone tell me what "32 bit alpha transparency" is?
