A Marvel Comics hero is giving George Washington some company on the quarter, but the U.S. Mint doesn't think the stunt is so super.  To promote the upcoming film "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," 20th Century Fox and The Franklin Mint altered 40,000 U.S. quarters to feature the character.

The U.S. Mint said in a news release Friday that it learned of the promotional quarter this week and advised the studio and The Franklin Mint they were breaking the law. It is illegal to turn a coin into an advertising vehicle, and violators can face a fine.

So money cant be used for profit gain, got it

What about those 'Where's George' dollars, would those get destroyed as well?
(if you dont know what i'm talking about, they have 'Where's George?' and a website address stamped on them, so people can track them)

oh my god...  "hi, our business is coinage and collectable currency, yet we dont know the law about them!"

fyi...  you can get a portrait of your gf , bf, dog, cat or whatever put on a coin or bill perfectly legal.  but if you put anything on it that can result in any form of profit gain (like THIS or burger king logo) that is illegal.  the coin/bill belongs to you, but there is guidelines to what you can do with it.  hell, you can legally burn money (but rather than do that, feel free to send it my way)

yes, they are spendable, but once they reach a federal reserve bank, they will be destroyed.
